RAPID CITYEugene L. (Gene) McCue, 83, Rapid City, died on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born November 14, 1926, in Aberdeen, the son of George P. and Mae (Quiney) McCue. He grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. He proudly served as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy from 1945 to 1946. He attended South Dakota State College on the GI Bill and earned a bachelors degree in Agriculture in 1950. On May 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Agnes Gabbert at Sacred Heart Church in Aberdeen, where they lived after their wedding. Later, they lived in Brookings and DeSmet, then moved to a ranch near Meadow in 1959. In 1966, they moved to Rapid City. He worked 36 years for the US Department of Agricultures Farmers Home Administration. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Ducks Unlimited, The American Legion Post 0255 (Bison), and served for several years on the Board of Directors of Sky Ranch for Boys. He was also an avid sportsman and hunter. Survivors include three sons, Michael McCue, Rapid City, Patrick McCue, Sioux Falls and Jeffrey McCue, Omaha, NE; 2 daughters, Mary Beth Lee, Los Alamos, NM and Lee Ann McCue, Richland, WA; a sister, Cel Brown, Houston, TX and four grandchildren, Molly McCue and Michael McCue both of Sioux Falls, and Joshua Dolin and Jennifer Lee both of Los Alamos. He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes (Gabby) McCue in 1998, and brother Robert McCue in 1991. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, at Blessed Sacrament Church with a Christian wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 23, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek as celebrant. Burial will follow, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, at Black Hills National Cemetery.
