Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Keller went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, May 5 at his home after losing his battle to cancer. Gene was born on December 12, 1930 to Joseph and Katherine (Hoffman) Keller in North Lemmon, ND. He graduated from Lemmon High School in 1949 and went to work for Pete Henry Construction as a brick layer apprentice until he was inducted into the Army. He spent 15 months proudly serving his country in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged October, 1953. He married his best friend Anna Jonas on November 25, 1953. He worked at the Lemmon Paint and Glass and later owned it. Then he worked at Wheelers Manufacturing for many years before he established his own business "Keller Krafts". They moved in 1987 to Rapid City, where he managed Clock Tower Gardens Apartments for 16 years. Upon retiring, he went to work part-time for Cousin Construction, where he filled many a nail hole. (Even in his sleep) While in Lemmon, he was a member of the Honor Guard at the American Legion Post 66. He also served as Fire Chief for many years in Lemmon. In Rapid City, he was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus for St. Therese parish. He religiously gave platelets at United Blood services for which he was very proud. Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 56 years, Anna of Rapid City, four daughters Vicky (Joe) Nehl, of Worland, Wyo., Cathy (Bob) Fredrickson, Sturgis, Nancy (David) Mace, of Mt. View, OK and Kristi (Ron) Lyon, of Piedmont; one son Steve (Angie) Keller, of Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren, Erin, Amy, Ben, Cassie, Kirby, Briana, Rex and Klara and three great-grandchildren Klayton, Eva and Myles. He is also survived by two sisters, Isabelle Boespflug, of Lemmon and Josephine Meier, Mott, ND, two sisters-in- law and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Michael, his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5 until 7 p.m., with a Christian wake service at 7:00 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 on Monday, May 10, at the Church of St. Therese, the Little Flower, with Rev. William Zandri presiding. Interment, with military honors by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
