Yankton - Eugene Kirchgesler, 67, of Yankton and formerly of Rapid City, died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Royal C. Johnson VA Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls under Hospice care after a short battle with cancer. Eugene David Kirchgesler was born September 12, 1947 in Rapid City, the second son of Jack and Josephine Kirchgesler. He attended St. John's Catholic School until the 8th grade, and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1965. After high school, he spent time enlisted in the Army and then the Navy. After his discharge from the U.S. Military he worked various jobs in and outside of Rapid City, until finally settling in Yankton. He is survived by his siblings: Jackie (Rick) Heard of Rapid City, Ken (Diane) Kirchgesler of Poplar Bluffs, MO, Judi Kirchgesler, Mark Kirchgesler, and Bill Kirchgesler all of Rapid City, and Chuck Kirchgesler of Minneapolis, MN. He is also survived by four nieces, four nephews, one great-niece and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Dan and Tim. Christian Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Tuesday, May 12 at St. Therese Church, The Little Flower, 532 Adams Street, Rapid City with Rev. William Zandri officiating. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with full Military Honors.
