Rapid City – Eugene "Gene" C. Steinley, 81, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Golden Living Center – Prairie Hills.
Eugene Craig Steinley was born January 26, 1935 at Belle Fourche, SD to Theodore Max and Olive Geraldine [Melius] Steinley. He graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1953. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on August 11, 1958.
Gene married Mildred "Millie" L. Slaughter in 1960 at Evansville, IN. He then later married Joan M. Kolb on June 27, 1981 in Rapid City, SD.
Gene is survived by his wife: Joan Steinley of Rapid City; three sons: Craig Steinley of Rapid City, Ted Steinley of Rapid City and Jeff Steinley of Austin, TX; one daughter: Julie [Ken] Schaff of Bismarck, ND; one brother: Gary [Nan] Steinley of Spearfish, SD; one sister: Cheryl [Ralph] Horman of Longmont, CO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two step-daughters: Karen Conners and Kathy Williamson bot of Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife: Millie.
At Gene's request he will be cremated and his Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Black Hills National Cemetery with Chaplain [Ret] Herb B. Cleveland officiating. There will be full military honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post #1273 and Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard.
