RAPID CITY--Eunice Carolina Schnabel, 82, passed away February 14, 2011, at Clarkson Healthcare where she resided for the past 2 years. She was born April 17, 1928, in Eureka, SD, to Henry and Carolina (Becker) Kusler. She spent her childhood on the family farm north of Eureka. Eunice married Rudy Schnabel, November 28, 1946, in Eureka. They moved from Eureka to Rapid City in 1958. Eunice and Rudy were blessed with 2 children, Dwight and Julie. After their children were raised, Eunice worked as a cashier at Big D Oil Company for 10 years. Eunice was a member of First Congregational Church in Rapid City where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess and a member of a Circle. The church was a very important part of her life. Eunice is survived by her son, Dwight (Lorna) Schnabel and grandsons, Jared and Jacob, all of Rapid City; her daughter, Julie (Tim) Smith and grandson, Nicholas, Post Falls, Id; sisters Alice Wolff, Lodi, Ca; Lasetta (Reinhold) Ritter, Ashely, ND and Esther Boschee, Aberdeen. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy, in 2003, her father, Henry, in 1970, and her mother, Carolina, in 1976. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 1200 Clark Street, Rapid City, with Rev. Dr. Ted Huffman officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM at Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the First Congregational Church.
