RAPID CITY- Eva Jane Hammond, 77, of Rapid City South Dakota, passed away on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016 at Bell Fourche Healthcare Community.

"Janie" was born on March 24th, 1939 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to Captain Doyle Crow and Allie Belle Maines. The youngest of 4 girls and also had 2 half siblings. Janie married Billy Eugene Hammond on June 19th, 1955 in Grandfield, Oklahoma and then moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where they resided for most of their lives and had 4 children together. She worked as a bartender for 23 years and lived out the rest of her days as a homemaker.

She enjoyed gardening and quilting and was a member of the Black Hills Quilters Guild. In her younger years, she was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Association where she served as an Auxiliary Officer.

Survivors include son Lynn Hammond and wife Valerie of Victorville, California, son Billy Dale Hammond of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, daughter Rhonda Jenner and husband Doug of Rapid City, South Dakota, her 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Eugene Hammond, in 1998, her son, Ricky Lon Hammond, in 1976, her 3 sisters Delores (Punk), Alice, Lena (Jody) and brother Junior.

Janie was known for her witty one liners and friendly demeanor. She was full of life and never met a stranger. She will be dearly missed and eternally loved.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. David Piper officiating.

Interment will follow at 12:00 noon at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
