Obituary

HILL CITY -- Eva Eve L. Koevenig, 80, Hill City, passed away Oct. 5, 2010, after a lengthy battle of cancer since 1997. She was incredibly resilient, all the way to the end. Despite her disease, she danced the night away at her grandson's wedding In June of this year. Eve was born July 24, 1930, in the Deerfield area to Olaf A. Hagen and Mary (Mamie) C. Hagen and grew up in the Hill City and Rapid City area. She married Eugene Koevenig in 1956 and spent the first three years of marriage in Page, Ariz., (Lake Powell). In 1959 they moved back to the Hills where they spent their remaining time in the Hills. Eve was the most loving and caring person, especially when it came to her family and her family will always be grateful. She enjoyed cooking and preparing the greatest meals that have stayed on the hips of many. She was a private person and enjoyed reading, charcoal sketching, loving her three grandsons and watching their basketball games, and watching Tiger Wood's throughout his career. She also enjoyed visiting Deadwood for a game or two of luck. She is survived by her son, Michael and his family (Jan and Ryan) of Ventura, Calif.; her daughter, Christine Redden of Hill City; grandsons, Nicholas Redden and family (Kari and Wyatt) of Belle Fourche, and Christopher Redden and family (Sandra and Katriona) of Custer; niece, Linda Garnhart and husband Jim of Rapid City; nephew, Patrick Watson and wife Sharol of Clinton, Iowa; and her brother-in-law, Eldon Knuth and his wife Margaret of Encino, Calif. Eve was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; an infant son; her parents, Olaf and Mamie; her brother, Roy; her sister, Lucille, and husband Marion Watson. Eve expressed her wishes for no funeral services but to be in your thoughts and prayers. I'm Free Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God laid for me. I took God's hand when I heard the call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work, or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don't lengthen it now with undue grief Lift up your heart and share with me- God wanted me now, god set me free! An informal gathering in remembrance of Eves life will be held from 1:00 P. M. until 3:30 P.M. Saturday, October 16th at the Horse Creek Inn on Highway 385, near Sheridan Lake Road.
