Obituary

Evelyn M. Erickson Graff, 89, passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at home surrounded by family love and prayers near and far. Evelyn was born Dec. 30, 1925 to Henry and Frieda (Dobrinski) Kattke in Manchester, SD. She had 3 brothers; Harold (Audrey) Kattke, Ramona, SD, Leo (Regina) Kattke and Vern Kattke, Oldham, SD, 3 sisters; Vera (Bud Dooley), Tucson, AZ, Neva (Marc Frey) San Antonio, TX, and Judi (Bob Riley) Lake Benton, MN, 2 sister-in-laws; Mildred (Maynard Pearson), Madison, SD, and Ann (Craig Seely), Baltic, SD. On June 4, 1947, she married Richard D. (Dick) Erickson from Canova, S.D. They farmed for a few years near Canova and later moved to Rapid City. They had three children: Randall L. (Linda) Erickson and Kendra S. (Gary) Larson of Rapid City and Pamela K. Chaussee (Larry) of Fort Collins, CO. Evelyn & Richard divorced after 38 years, and Evelyn later married Virgil P. Graff of Rapid City on June 9, 1986. Evelyn had 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Graff, her parents, brothers, Harold and Leo Kattke, sister, Neva Frey, sister-in-law, Regina Kattke, brother-in-law, Bob Riley, sister-in-law, Mildred Pearson, brother-in-law, Craig Seely, son-in-law, Calvin L. (Larry) Chaussee III, grandson, Stephen E. Larson of Rapid City, and great grandson, Macon L. Chaussee Mason of Centennial, CO. After graduating from High School, Evelyn pursued a career as an executive secretary/personal assistant in the areas of Law, Banking & Insurance. She retired in 1972 from Western Mutual Life Insurance in Rapid City and continued to manage Rapid Trailer Truck Rentals with her husband, Dick After her marriage to Virgil in 1986, they had fun traveling, gardening, fishing, playing with their grandchildren and dancing. How they loved to dance! She loved baking and playing cards & bingo with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed traditions & celebrations throughout her family's life and we will treasure and carry on what she began for generations to come! She will be greatly missed. Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City with Rev. Ryan Schendzielos officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be at 9:30 am on Monday, Jan 19, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Hills. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.
