The Lord welcomed Evelyn "Evie" Sorensen (95) home on July 23, 2023. She was born in Mankato, MN in 1927 and was raised by her father George.  She graduated at the top of her class in boarding school and received a scholarship to the community college where she earned an administrative degree.  She began working the day she graduated at the Mankato city office.  Evie was very talented with numbers and finance and continued to work as an administrative assistant throughout her career.

She married Peter Sorensen in 1963 and enjoyed 53 years together.  They lived mainly in Montevideo, MN and raised three children.  They enjoyed going to MN Vikings games, spending time at their lake cabin, playing cards and getting together with friends.

Pete and Evie moved to Rapid City, SD in 1994.  They enjoyed living out by Lake Pactola, going to the Coyote and meeting friends. They enjoyed watching their grandson's sporting events and traveling to see their kids. She loved Post 22 Baseball.

Evie was an avid reader, a lucky (or skilled) gambler, a good friend and conversationalist.  She didn't have the easiest life or up bringing but she never complained about circumstances. She just made the best of it.  She loved her family, friends, and pets.  She knew what was going on in Rapid City and around the world.  Evie truly was an amazing woman with a heart of gold.  She cared about people and took the time to ask about everyone's life.  She had a generous spirit and a joyful heart.

We will miss her dearly but know that she is in heaven and the angels are welcoming her with open arms.  She was a kind and faithful servant. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pete Sorensen and her father, George Neary.

She is survived by her children Deborah (Conrad) Anderson, Greg (Paula) Sorensen, Sherri (Samuel) McMillion and her grandchildren Alanna (Mick) Thompson, Ross Anderson, Ben Sorensen, and Jack Sorensen.

Services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
