RAPID CITY- Evelyn Yeavon (Pluta) Whidby, 88, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at Fountain Springs Health Care.

Evelyn was born on October 31, 1928 to Alex and Lilan Pluta in Belvidere, South Dakota. Evelyn spent all her youth growing up and living on the Pluta farm outside of Belvidere. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1946. Evelyn attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell for one year and then attended Chadron State College in Nebraska where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Quinn, SD for one year.

Evelyn married Julian Whidby on August 8, 1948 in Belvidere. They had three children: Judy, Wayne, and Alan. Evelyn and Julian resided for 28 years on the Whidby Ranch south of Kadoka. They moved to Rapid City in 1976 and have resided here for the last 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Julian in May, 2015; and son, Wayne Whidby in 2010.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Judy (Pat) Ring, Indianapolis, IN; son, Alan Whidby, Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren: Shawn (Karen) Ring, Tampa, FL; Amanda (Dave) Segura, Phoenix, AZ; Jason Ring, Portland, OR; Tim Whidby, Rapid City; Denise (Weston) Hartman, south of Kadoka; eight great grandchildren: Jackson and Nathan Ring, Tampa, FL; Noah, Bella, Jonah Segura, Phoenix, AZ; Teather, Daegen, and Emberlynn Hartman, south of Kadoka, sister, Arlene Anderson, Sabastian, FL and brother in law, Bruce (Lila) Whidby, Kadoka. She also leaves behind several cousin, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Berg officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Private burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
