Obituary

RAPID CITY | Fae Lois Hanks, 82, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018, at the Rapid City Hospice House. She was born April 17, 1936, to George and Deatha (Goolsbey) Bickel in Herried, SD.

Fae earned her teaching degree and met her future husband Ethan Hanks while attending Northern State in Aberdeen. They were married in 1957, in Aberdeen and lived in Lemmon from 1958 to 1961, and in Huron from 1962 to 1969. She moved to Rapid City later that same year, where she remained until her passing.

An active participant in the Rapid City educational system, Fae taught for the public schools and was a regular in the stands at Stevens High School athletic events, supporting both her husband and children.

Fae was a long time member of Canyon Lake Methodist Church, and enjoyed reading and playing cards with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sharon Larkin of Sun City West, AZ; and her husband, Ethan Hanks.

Fae is survived by her daughter Diane's family including husband, Craig Fenske of Cary, IL, and daughters, Julie Fenske and Michelle Heath, wife of Thomas. Fae is also survived by her two sons, Alan and Daniel Hanks and their families who include Alan's companion, Brenda Graziano of Rapid City, and daughter Breanna Hanks. Daniel's family includes wife Marcela Hanks of Williamsburg, VA, and daughters Tatiana and Natalia. She was great-grandmother to Ellie Marie Heath.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eric Grinager officiating. Visitation will begin at noon. Interment will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
