Obituary

RAPID CITY- Fern Keller, 94, died Friday, January 16, 2015, in Rapid City. She was born October 8, 1920, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and LaVera (Krause) Beeler. Her family farmed outside of Hettinger, ND. Fern graduated from Hettinger High School in 1938. She then moved to Great Falls, Montana and Kansas City, Missouri. She went back to Lemmon, where her parents had moved in 1941, and continued working. In Lemmon she met and later married Leo Keller on July 2, 1945. They owned and operated the Quansetta Club east of Lemmon for several years where Fern made everything from scratch. They sold the Club and purchased Kuilman's Motel which they managed until they sold it and retired. They moved to Rapid City in September 1977, and became active members of St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church. Fern served as the Altar Society President, served on the parish Building Committee, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court of St. Rita #916. For several years Fern was renowned for cooking the roast beef and making the gravy for the parish's annual Fall Festival dinner. Fern is survived by her son, Dennis Keller, Hill City, SD; daughters Lee Ann (Rich) Jensen, Rapid City, and Kimberly Keller, Rapid City; grandchildren Alicia (Andy) Edsen, Omaha, NE; Cody (Christina) Jensen, Perth, AU; and David (Kindra) Keller, Spring, TX; and great-grandchildren Aiden Keller, Jay Jensen, and Cheyenne Keller. She is also survived by her brother Don (Marriane) Beeler, Superstition Mountain, AZ; and sisters Joyce Ginther, Paynesville, MN; and Betty Surring, Hermosa, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Keller; her brothers Clarence, Cliff, Archie, and Wayne; sisters Shirley Fay and Ethel. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church, followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the church with Rev. William Zandri presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established. Due to scent allergies, the family requests roses, carnations, or plants only.
