RAPID CITYFlorence G. Brown, 92, died Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House. Florence was born in Dimock, on September 30, 1920, to Louis and Mary Schlimgen. She grew up in Parkston and attended Nettleton Business College. Florence lived briefly in Louisiana and Minneapolis and worked for Boeing Aircraft in Los Angeles. She was united in marriage to Arnold Brown on September 24, 1946 and worked at KOTA Radio for a brief time. She loved the art of Thomas Kinkade, the novels of Maeve Binchey and the big swing bands of the 1940's. Florence was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she delighted people with her wonderful sense of humor. She also told great stories of growing up in eastern South Dakota in the 20's and 30's. She is survived by her son, Tom Brown, and 2 daughters Michelle Nasstrom and Laurie Brown, all of Rapid City; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Shelley, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1986 and a sister, Joan Schroeder, formerly of Westlake Village, CA. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Florence supported St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and other charities benefiting children, and the family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
