Florence was born March 11, 1931 in Gann Valley near Kimball, SD to Anton and Mae (McKee) Kroupa. She was one of seven children; four boys and three girls. She spent her growing up years in the Kimball/Mt. Vernon area. She married Douglas L. Hawn in Plankinton on October 13, 1953. While living in Lead, two sons were born in their marriage, Don and Bill. A few years later, they moved to Rapid City where a daughter, Peggy was born. Family was her number one priority. Among her variety of interests were bowling, flowers, gambling, playing cards, and for a short time, hot rodding cars. Florence worked at a variety of places; Midwest Circuit, Westwood Restaurant & Lounge, SCI, and Ridco. Florence held unconditional love for others freely offering a listening ear. She was a best friend to many. She was a precious gift to us all. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Peggy Hanson, Rapid City; five grandchildren; Jon Hawn, Rapid City; Krysti (Brett) Brekke, Crystal (Will) Lind, Lakewood, CO; Kelly Hanson, Sioux Falls; Chere Hansen, Rusk, TX; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Kroupa, Tacoma, WA; two sisters, Irene Shelton, Florence, OR; and Vera Hill-Zens, Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas; two sons, Don and Bill; grandson, Brandon; great grandson, Riley; and three brothers, Roy, Ralph, and Marvin. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
