Floyd E. "Ozzie" Osterholt, 94, of Rapid City, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born on January 1, 1922 in Raymond, SD to Glen and Huldah (Lama) Osterholt. Floyd enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 25, 1940. He served in the Pacific theatre during WWII and was honorably discharged August 4, 1945.
He married Margaret L. Nordstrom in Aberdeen on March 23, 1946 until her death in 2002 after 56 years. Floyd worked as a steam plant operator at the Igloo Army Depot, SD, then transferred to Ellsworth AFB where he worked as a heating equipment mechanic until 1977. When Floyd retired from the Civil Service he began to travel with his wife after her retirement. Floyd owned Ozzie's Saw Sharpening Shop until he moved away from his home to an apartment.
He was a member of Rushmore VFW Post 1273 as a chaplain, American Legion Post 22and the Shrine of Democracy Barbershop Chorus, Mt Rushmore Chapter.
He is survived by his sons; Lyle Osterholt (Marta) Shreveport, LA, Rueben Osterholt, Rapid City and Elvin Osterholt, Rapid City, his daughters; Debbie Huskey and DeAnn Koski, both of Rapid City, 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 9:00am until 11:00am, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00am at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Roberts officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
