Obituary

RAPID CITY--Francis D. 'Dub' Zeidler, 85, died at Fort Meade VAMC, on Monday, June 9, 2008. Dub was born on January 2, 1923, in Brainerd, MN, to Frank and Eva (Hall)Zeidler. He grew up in Iroquois, SD and graduated from Iroquois High School in 1940. After high school, Dub joined the U. S. Navy on December 7, 1942 and served on the USS LST 456 in the South Pacific during World War II. While serving in the Navy, he married Leone Hinch on February 9, 1946 in Charles City, IA. After his discharge from the service, he started working at the SD State Cement Plant in Rapid City SD, where he was employed for the next 22 years. Dub was then employed at Sioux San for 16 years and retired in 1984. After retirement, Dub and Leone enjoyed many wonderful years traveling to Casa Grande, AZ, where they met many wonderful friends to spend their time with. He was a member of St. Therese Church, the Elks Lodge and the VFW. Dub enjoyed, playing golf, dancing, and he especially liked to follow his Denver Bronco football team. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and also enjoyed metal detecting. Grandpa 'Dub' was always the life of every gathering and would always make you smile. He was our rock! The family would like to thank Arlene, the nurses and staff of G Ward, especially Victoria Lee, at Fort Meade VAMC, for their compassionate and loving care. Survivors include his two sons, Robert 'Bob' Zeidler and his wife Debbie, Rapid City and Donald 'Don' Zeidler and his wife Fawn, Longmont, CO; 7 grandchildren, Tammy, Shelly, Sandy, Ryan, Dawn, Candi and Ashley; 17 great-grandchildren and his special friend Rose Zdenek, Ellsworth, MN. Dub was preceded in death by his wife, Leone, his parents and a sister, Vera Bahnsen. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m., on Sunday, June 15, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16, at the Church of St. Therese, the Little Flower with Father Bill Zandri presiding. Interment, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will follow in Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of the Hills.
