FRANCIS S. HADCOCK
Francis Samuel Hadcock, 90 years old, died December 7, 2017, while at a Christmas party surrounded by family.
He was born March 31, 1927 at Bixby SD to Frank C. and Julia (Schiebel) Hadcock. He moved to Rapid City in 1934 with his family, one year before his father's death. He has lived in Rapid City since.
In November of 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving until 1946 when he was discharged and returned to Rapid City. He married Ruth E. Wolken at Rapid City August 5, 1948. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Francis spent several years working for Fairmont Creamery and Sherwin Williams before going to work for 30 years for Fitzgerald Paint Company where he was shop Foreman. He then operated Hadcock Painting for the next 10 years.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, Rapid City; two daughters, Patty Johnson, Rapid City, and Susan Wheeldon, West Allis WI; two sons, Scott (Debbie) Hadcock and Michael Hadcock, Rapid City; and six grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Johnson, Danville CA; Amanda (Nate) Olson, Bend OR; Joseph (Laurie) Wheeldon, Boyceville WI; Sam Wheeldon, Fargo ND; Grace (Chris) Beilski, New Berlin WI; and Ben (Shauna) Wheeldon, New Albany IN. In addition, he is survived by 13 great grandchildren: Caitlyn and Sophia Johnson, Danville CA; Kellen and Sloan Olson, Bend OR; Brennan, Shiloh, Noelle, Peter and Lucy Wheeldon, Boyceville WI; Maci and Jack Wheeldon, Fargo ND; and Capri and Samuel Beilski, New Berlin WI; one sister-in-law, Betty Lou Hye, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leo and James Hadcock; his sister, Mary (Earle) Sutton; and one grandson, Joshua Johnson.
Services will be held Friday, December 15, at 10 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery, with Fr. Bill Zandri officiating. Please gather at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home at 9 a.m. for the procession to the cemetery. Military honors will be provided by The Retired Enlisted Association and the United States Navy Honors Team.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been designated to Western SD Juvenile Services Center.
