New Underwood - Frank L. Olic, 86, New Underwood, passed away peacefully May 9, 2010 surrounded by his family at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Frank was born March 10, 1924 to Bessie and Frank Olic at Imlay, SD. He attended grade school at Imlay and graduated valedictorian from Scenic High School in 1942. He ran the family ranch at a very young age with his mother, as his father passed away when he was only seven years old. He helped support his mother and siblings and continued ranching until 2001. Frank married Margaret Jobgen May 31, 1952. They were blessed with four children. He loved his horses and cattle, gardening and planting trees, playing cards, fossil hunting, fishing and hunting, befriending his neighbors and spending time with family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him. He always found the good in people and though he went through many painful accidents and health problems, he never complained. Frank was a member of the Lions Club, the 1902 Cowboys, the Buckaroos, served on the Scenic Township and was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, three daughters, Connie (Arlen) Carmichael, New Underwood, Carolyn Thompson, Rapid City, Carla (John) Dean, Platte; and one son Mike Olic, New Underwood; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Tedrow, Murdo, Helen Miller, Rapid City, and Bessie Konvalinka, Czech Republic; and one brother, Tony Olic, Spearfish. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; his mother, Bessie; and his sister, Patricia Olic. The rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m., with visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Mass of Christian burial with be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at St. John's Catholic Church in New Underwood with the Rev. William Zandri presiding. Burial will follow at Scenic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scenic Cemetery Association, 111 N. C Ave., New Underwood, SD 57761.
