Fred William (Snuffy) Smith was born March 24th, 1926 to Margaret and Will Smith in Forrest City, SD. As a four-year old he was afflicted with polio. He was born into a family of 10 children, six sisters and three brothers. He attended school in Deadwood and Fruitdale, SD. Fred was married to Helen Huffman on August 21, 1948. To this union there were three children, Barbara, Connie, and Monty. The family resided in Deadwood until 1954, then moved to Newcastle, WY., and then to Rapid City, SD. They lived in their home in Rapid City until 2010 before moving to Somerset Court Assisted Living. While living at Somerset he met many great friends and loved the staff who were wonderful to him. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Working 43 years for Black Hills Power and Light he exemplified hard work and commitment to his job. He enjoyed attending functions for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed camping and fishing at various local fishing spots. He loved playing bingo and other games at Somerset Court and all the various trips taken in and around the hills. If ever asked how he was, the response would always be "good, real good."
