RAPID CITY- Freddie A. Martin, 73, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Freddie was born on the family farm in Faith, SD, the eighth of 11 children. He joined the Army when he was 18 years old, proudly serving his country. Most of his service time was spent in Germany. Freddie returned to the States and toured the next several years as a musician and entertainer. He married Wilma, his wife, partner and friend in 1965. They settled in Belle Fourche in 1972. He worked for many years as a truck driver in Colony, WY, until he and Wilma bought their own trucks, building Martin Trucking as a company he was proud of. Music and entertainment always remained in his life. In 2005, he and Wilma moved to Rapid City to add a new chapter to their lives. He leaves a loving family with hard working ethics, strong family values, and always the love and laughter of life. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Martin, Rapid City; son, Stuart Martin, Rapid City; and daughter, Lea (Tony) Brothers, Rapid City; four brothers: Hugh Martin, Rapid City; Vern Martin, Phoenix, AZ; Melvin Martin, Spanaway, WA; Darrel Martin, Phoenix, AZ; two sisters: Loyis Lidman, Rapid City; and Della Jones, White City, OR; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Harvest Hills Community Church in Black Hawk with Pastor Brian Wendt officiating. Inurnment with military honors rendered by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
