Obituary

Born February 16, 1928 in Wolsey, SD, Genevieve "Genny" was the sixth of eight children to bless the marriage of Bismark and Nellie (Houseman) Nollsch.  She was young when the family moved to Vale, SD, and it was there that she spent her formative years.  She spoke fondly of her time spent on the farm and had a particular affinity for telling stories about riding her horse, Ginger, to school.

After her brothers ventured out on their own and farm life became too much for her father, the family moved to Rapid City.  Genny began her sophomore year at Rapid City High School.  She thoroughly enjoyed learning, particularly history and geography.

It was at Rapid City High that she met Daryl Liebig.  They married in 1944 and welcomed six children together: Roy Dean, Donald "Hip", Ronald "Sam", Richard "Bill", Kay Ann, and Patricia "Patty Jo".  Raising an active brood kept her quite busy – the girls in gymnastics and cheerleading, and Daryl and the boys in their racing adventures.  For many years she managed the concession stands at several local racetracks.

Genny held a variety of jobs in her 96 years, but her tenure as the Food Service Coordinator at the Rapid City YMCA brought her a unique sense of pride and satisfaction.  She spent nearly 25 years there, serving the public and forming friendships that would last her lifetime.

After her retirement from the YMCA in 1989 she took to organizing bingo games and potluck lunches for her apartment community.  She thrived in the company of people and strived to bring them together at every opportunity.  With her newfound "free-time" she was able to spend more time attending church and partaking in hobbies – watching racing, cooking, sewing, building dollhouses, crocheting, genealogy research and jigsaw puzzles.  Simultaneously, the recitals, sporting events and concerts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren provided her both entertainment and joy.  One of the biggest surprises and highlights of her retired life was winning a convertible Volkswagen Beetle.

Although age and health issues eventually limited her ability to drive her Bug and generally "go" like she used to, she maintained her hobbies to the best of her ability and still enjoyed time spent with family and friends.  She was proud to have lived independently until the last week of her life.

Welcoming Genny into the arms of the angels on April 7, 2024 were: her parents Bismark and Nellie; siblings Glen, Harry, Everett, Roy and Joy; ex-husband Daryl; and son Roy Dean.  Mourning their earthly loss are: her sisters Phyllis and Carol; sisters-in-law Geraldine and Mona; her children - Hip, Sam (Vicki), Bill, Kay Ann (Jerry), Patty Jo (Wayne); daughter-in-law Sally; grandchildren Penny (Roger), Brad (Jenny), Jennifer, Brian (Misty), Shane (Kyleen), Del, Misty (Brian), Pennie (Michael), Toby (Jamie), Meressa (Brian) and Megan (Jason); 19 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and lifelong friend Darlene.

Genny's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring and attentive staff at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital and the supportive, knowledgeable nurses of Monument Health Home+ Hospice Services.
