Obituary

George Eugene Davidson passed away on October 19, 2025 at Monument Health.

He was born on July 21,1934 in Iroquois, S.D. to Frank Samuel and Georgia Ann (Goodrich) Davidson. As a child, George attended a small country school near De Smet, S.D., where he received a grade school education. Throughout his childhood, the family moved several times. Along with his parents and three sisters, time was spent in areas of rural South Dakota and Iowa, before they settled near Boone, I.A.

As soon as George was a young man, he came to Pierre, S.D. to live closer to his grandmother. George married Mary Ellen Houghton on December 19, 1955 in Pierre. George and Mary welcomed their son, Larry Lee, in 1956. Two years later, their daughter, Linda Kay, joined the family. During the early 1960's, George owned a small gas station in Ft. Pierre, S.D. He spent his time operating his business, working on and building old cars and racing dirt cars. When his children were young, George and Mary divorced and he relocated to Colorado.

George spent time working on cars as a mechanic. He was proud that he had learned to build carburetors and transmissions. While working in Colorado, George met and married Evelyn Ivy. Evelyn had four grown children and so the couple decided to move and made a life together in Kansas. After Evelyn's passing, George moved back to Rapid City, S.D. to be closer to his family.

Cars and racing remained a passion during George's life. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and watched the races every Sunday. Also, as a project, George and Larry worked together to rebuild an old 1946 Chevy Business Coupe. In addition to cars, George liked music and played in a small band in the 1950's. He taught himself how to play several instruments including the accordion and the guitar. George enjoyed bowling and was a lifelong member of the Elks Club.

George is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruth and Betty, wife Evelyn, and daughter Linda.

He is survived by his sister Evelyn (Calvin) Kruckenberg, his son Larry (Deann) Davidson and 3 grandchildren, Miranda Davidson, Marina  Davidson and Marcus (Mikhaila) Davidson.
