RAPID CITY - Geraldine H. "Jerry" Mueller, 91, Rapid City, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at home. Geraldine Henrietta "Jerry" Mueller was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Vesta, Minn., daughter of Ferdinand and Alvina Kemnitz. Her early years were spent in Vesta and North Redwood, Minn., until the family moved to Redwood Falls in 1928. She graduated as valedictorian of the Redwood Falls High School in 1937, attended the University of Minnesota and began a newspaper career at the Redwood County Sun and subsequently at the Redwood Gazette. During World War II she was editor of the Galva News in Illinois and later accepted a similar position at the Marshall (Minn.) Messenger. She married Frederic Mueller on April 13, 1951, in Marshall. They moved to Rapid City in November 1951. Mrs. Mueller was active in various functions at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She was the first president of the Altar Society and served on its school board. She also was Grand Lady of the Knight's Ladies and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. Other affiliations were with the League of Women Voters, Girl Scouts and Little League. She also had served as treasurer of the Silver City Fire Department. Mrs. Mueller operated Continental Tax Service for 10 years. In recent years she and her husband spent their time in Silver City and wintered in Mesa, Ariz. For the past 11 years, she lived in Rapid City with her daughter, Anne Meisner. Surviving are daughter, Anne Meisner (husband, David); son, Thomas Mueller (partner, Irena) of Moscow, Russia; granddaughter, Kathryn Johnson (husband, Patrick, and their children, Daniel, Luke Frederic and Emily Geraldine) of Houston, Texas; grandson, Eric (wife, Diwen, and their children, Maya and Henning) of Geneva, Switzerland; stepgrandson, Shane Meisner of Leonardtown, Md.; stepgranddaughter, Tanya Meisner (and her daughter, Alexis) of Eagan, Minn.; and sister, Marcella Kirkpatrick of Eden Prairie, Minn. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frederic (2007); her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Lassow and Alvera Lamprecht; and one brother, Marvin Kemnitz. Jerry was a kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a committed and selfless volunteer and business woman. She loved to read. She had such a positive impact on all the lives of her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederic Mueller. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, with a Christian wake service at 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Our Lady Chapel at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with the Rev. Michel Mulloy presiding. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Black Hills.
