Gilbert Urban LeCompte, born on February 25, 1944, in Fort Yates, North Dakota, passed away on February 7, 2026, in Anaheim, California. A devoted husband, son, and friend.

Gilbert was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving from May 21, 1963, to October 20, 1967. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his commitment to his country.

He was blessed with a loving family, including his mother, Faith Houston, who resides in Rapid City, SD, three children, William John LeCompte (spouse, Sherri) Don LeCompte (deceased), a daughter Cheryl Bailey (spouse, Kyle). Five grandchildren, granddaughters Destiny, Chastity (spouse Allen Madplume), Michaela (spouse Dan Lucas), and grandsons Alec, and Donovan. Seven great grandchildren, Lucas, Juni and Isabella Madplume, Ezrin, Marcus and Ayanna Talksabout, and Larry Lucas, and sister Melani Block.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his father Willliam J. LeCompte, son Don LeCompte, sister Tere Houston, step-father Don L. Houston, beloved wife, Mari Irene Angelo-LeCompte. Their bond was a testament to an enduring love full of devotion, compassion and friendship.

A graveside service to honor Gilbert's life will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota, on February 25, 2026. The service will commence at 11:00 AM, with attendees encouraged to arrive early. He will be laid to rest with the dignity and respect befitting his life and legacy.
