Gladys Felton Bauer, Rapid City, S.D. passed away on March 26, 2009. Gladys was born on January 30, 1913, in central Meade County to Daniel W. and Cora Liston Felton. She attended rural schools in Meade County and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1932. She attended Black Hills Teachers College and eventually earned her Bachelors Degree in elementary education. Gladys taught six years in the rural schools of Meade County and later taught second grade in the Sturgis Elementary Schools for twenty years. She and Jesse Bauer were married on October 10, 1936 at the Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Gladys was active in the Presbyterian Church, having taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. In addition, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. After retiring from teaching, Gladys and Jesse divided their time between a home in Sun Lakes, Arizona and a home on Sand Creek in Wyoming. Jesse and Gladys were blessed by the birth of three daughters, Sharon (Marion) Rasmussen of Redmond, WA, Patricia Hamm of Rapid City, and Barbara (Kris) Kober of Scottsdale, AZ. She also enjoyed six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Jesse, passed away on December 31, 1994. Jesse and Gladys spent fifty eight years together. Her parents, two brothers, Dwight and Lloyd, and an infant son, Daniel, preceded her in death. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She will be interred next to her husband, Jesse, in Sturgis at the Bear Butte Cemetery.
