RAPID CITY- Gladys C. Bitterman, 83, of Rapid City, died Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Gladys was born on November 11, 1933 to William F and Emelia (Dewald) Bietz and raised on the family farm east of Tripp, SD. She attended Lake Region District #11 country school through the eighth grade and attended one year of high school in Tripp. Gladys was baptized and confirmed in the Denneurtz Lutheran Church of rural Tripp.
She married Marvin Bitterman of Parkston, SD on May 16, 1954 at Denneurtz Lutheran Church. They had three boys; Lyle, Lee and Lynn.
During their 62 years of marriage, Gladys and Marvin lived in several different locations throughout South Dakota, during which time, Gladys worked at different locations.
In 1990 they moved to Rapid City. A favorite past time of Gladys was playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lyle in 1975, her brother Ray Bietz in 2006 and her parents.
Gladys' memory will be cherished by her husband, Marvin, Rapid City, two sons; Lee (Sue) of Lyman, WY and Lynn of Gillette, eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with another on the way. Her sister, Adeline (George) Brech, Parkston, a sister in law, Idella Bietz, Tripp and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the First Congregational Church in Rapid City with interment at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
