RAPID CITYGlenn E. Best, 87, passed into eternal life at his daughter Leslees home on Friday, July 25, 2008, after a short illness. He was born January 9, 1921 in Centerville, SD to Charles McKinley Best and Blanche Edna Spencer Thicket Best. Glenn grew up in Wall, SD with his four siblings Dale, Wendell, Donna and Thelma. His parents and siblings all preceded him in death. Glenn served in the US Navy in the Pacific during WW II. Following the war he returned to SD and met Betsy Land whom he married August 11, 1950 in Rapid City. Glenn was elected Sheriff of Pennington County in 1952 and held that position for 20 years. During that time he was instrumental in the formation of the South Dakota Sheriffs' and Peace Officers' Association. Glenn was proud to be a Mason and held membership in many Masonic fraternal organizations including Rapid City Lodge #25, NAJA Shrine and Golden Link Chapter #25 Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Betsy Best, Rapid City; his children, Wende Rae Best, Englewood, CO, Barry Alan Best, Englewood, and Leslee Gale Best Wallis, Rapid City; 3 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., on Monday, July 28, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at the Shrine Club, 4091 Sturgis Rd. Inurnment will follow in the Wall Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to either the Shrine Crippled and Burned Childrens Hospital Travel Fund or to Hospice of the Hills.
