IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glenn Alvern
Plummer
October 21, 1930 – October 18, 2018
Rapid City - Glenn A. Plummer passed away October 18, 2018, just three days before his 88th birthday.
He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on October 21, 1930 to William "Rex" and Frances Plummer.
After his service for the Navy working in a submarine, he returned to Iowa and married Eleanor Kelly. Living in Norfolk, Nebraska until 1959 they moved to Rapid City to work in the piano and organ business.
Glenn owned and operated Plummer Piano & Organ Company from 1959-1985, enhancing the lives of thousands through the beauty of music.
Eventually he owned and operated a couple of Fitness Centers in Rapid City. It was a perfect fit for him, as he became a Marathon Runner in his 40s. This included running the Boston Marathon several times and even completing a couple of Ultra Marathons (52 miles). Yes, we all thought that was crazy! And yes, that was him you saw running around town in those short running shorts!
Glenn was instrumental in starting the first Big Brothers of the Rapid City area. He was a man with great compassion. He was always one of the first people to visit families who had experienced a loss in their family, especially a child, since he had experienced that with his only son. Many people were touched by his help with addictions. He was a big part of that community of people in Rapid City. He loved his family and the Black Hills Community.
Glenn struggled with many personal issues, but fought through them with the strength of a warrior. He went from a dirt-poor child to a self-made millionaire through hard work and perseverance.
He was preceded in death by his son, Edward and his sister, Joyce.
He is survived by four daughters, Vickie Plummer Jacobson, Sherrill Wolff (Steve), Connie Plummer, all of Rapid City and Alexis Boschee of Vermillion. Glenn is also survived by seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Glenn spent the last 9 years of his life at Edgewood Vista (an assisted living facility) in Spearfish. We are forever grateful for the wonderful care they provided. In particular, we say thank you to his favorite nurse, Katie.
A memorial for the Humane Society has been established.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 27rd, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with burial at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
Arrangements by Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
