Rapid City - Glenny M. Tays, 82, died Friday, March 20, 2015 at her home under hospice care. Glenny May Trimble was born March 12, 1933 at Presho, SD to the parents of Glen and Grayce [LeVelle] Trimble. She grew to adulthood and attended school at Presho, graduating with the Class of 1951. She then attended the National School of Business for a year and then attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1956. Glenny then attended the University of Montana and received her Master's Degree in 1961 and then attended Iowa State University where she was working on her Doctoral Studies. Glenny married Richard Ray Tays on May 29, 1954 at Presho, SD. She was a career educator and taught in Kimball, SD and Burke, SD before the family moved to Iowa in 1965 and she taught at Des Moines Area Community College in Boone. The family returned to South Dakota in 1978 and she taught at St. Martin's Academy, Todd County High School and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte schools. Her husband, Richard died on December 25, 1999 and then Glenny retired from teaching. She was proud of her career in education and having a positive influence on the lives of so many young people. She had several leadership roles during her career and was a Past President of the Iowa State Education Association and a past member of the Dakota Wesleyan University Alumni Board of Directors. Glenny is survived by two sons: Bob [Jane] Tays and grandsons Robby and Cory Tays of Edwardsville, Illinois and Tom [Mary] Tays of West Des Moines, Iowa; one brother: Tom [Donna] Trimble of Rapid City; and two sisters: Mary Conant of San Dimas, California and Ruth [John] Pizzo of Williamsburg, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Her funeral memorial mass will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard. Inurnment will be at Mt. View Cemetery, Rapid City. Memorials may be directed to the Tays Endowed Scholarship in Teacher Education at Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, SD.
