Godfrey "Chip" Engel, III, 73, of Rapid City passed away at his home on Thursday, July 30, 2020.

He was born on October 11, 1946 in Staten Island, NY to Godfrey and Betty (Haden) Engel, II. After high school, Godfrey joined the U.S. Army in 1966. While in the Army, Godfrey attended college to earn a business degree.

Godfrey then moved to Rapid City in 1982 and began his future as a chimney sweep retiring in 2017.

Godfrey was a lover of the outdoors and found solitude in mountain, ice, and rock climbing. Sky diving, fly fishing, snow skiing, camping and road tripping were some of his favorites.

He is survived by his daughter, Matie Engel, Rapid City and his two grandsons Ezekiel Engel, Rapid City, and Jaxon Engel, Rapid City

Inurnment of his ashes will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 10:00am at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors.

A memorial has been established.
