RAPID CITY- Grace L. Herron, 86, passed away due to complications from kidney failure at Rapid City Regional Hospital on January 29, 2017.
Grace was born in Hot Springs on May 1, 1929. Her early years were spent in Ward, SD. The family moved to Zion, IL when grace was a young lady.
In July 1953, Grace married M.D. Herron "Dude" in Washington D.C. on July 6, 1953. Dude was in the Navy so they moved to quite a few different locations including Iowa, Utah, and California. Dude retired in Rapid City.
Grace continued working as a server because she enjoyed meeting new people. She worked at Harold's Prime Rib for numerous years.
Grace had two sons, Tim and Jeff Herron. They meant the world to her. Jeff's son Riley was the light of her life. Grace was in the process of making a quilt for Riley when she passed. She was a master seamstress, quilter, and crafter. It was her favorite hobby. She was an awesome cook and baker. She loved making Riley's food dishes and was the Queen of Thanksgiving. She enjoyed her cats, spending time with family and friends of which she had many. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Grace is survived by her grandson, Riley; sister, Donna Brock; nieces: Crystal and Laurel Brock; and step father Carl Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dude; children: Tim and Jeff Herron; and step parents Lydia and George Ehlers.
Services will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Jones officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. until service time.
Interment will follow at 1:30 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
