Obituary

RAPID CITY- Gwendolyn A. Boehler, 76, died Monday, December 23, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Gwendolyn Anne Schwall was born Dec. 1, 1937, to Robert and Anne (Rahrick) Schwall of Ipswich, South Dakota. She attended Holy Cross Elementary School and graduated from Ipswich High School. After attending Aberdeen School of Business, she worked as a receptionist, secretary and bookkeeper for finance, legal, and communication offices. She met and married Darwin Boehler in 1956, while he was a student at Northern State College. Gwen's professional career included working with her husband in the insurance and real estate business. For the past 18 years, she was a business manager for Pinnacle Property Management, and earned national recognition for her exceptional work. She pursued many avenues for self-improvement including membership in the International Toastmistress Club, where she won speaking awards on the local, regional, and international levels. Serving as a role model to her children and grandchildren was extremely important to Gwen, and in that capacity she offered unfailing support in their education, sports, and life activities. She loved her grandchildren deeply and unconditionally, and being with them brought her much joy. Her parents, Bob and Anne, preceded Gwen in death. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Darwin; four children, Robert E. (Cathy) Boehler, Russell A. (Cara) Boehler, Julie A. (Kevin) Ratliff, and Shelly J. (Brian) Loeffler; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Gwen and her husband have been long-time members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she will be honored with a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, with the Rev. Daniel Juelfs presiding. All wishing to extend a gesture of farewell are invited to attend. Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Her family has requested any expression honoring her memory be made in the form of a contribution to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950.
