"Hal" Dary
February 1, 1931 – August 17, 2023
Harold L. Dary, 92, of Rapid City, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, surrounded by family, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.
Hal was born on February 1, 1931, in Bloom City, WI, the oldest of three children, to Harold R. and Velma (Bender) Dary.
After graduating from Richland Center, WI, Hal joined the Air Force and was sent to Guam during the Korean War. Upon completing his tour in Guam, he was reassigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base, where he met his wife, Ramona Darlene Larson. They were married on August 11, 1955. Hal and Darlene had three children, Sheryl Lynn (1958) Steven Lavern (1960) and Kevin August (1964)
Hal worked civil service at Ellsworth Air Force Base for 20 years. After retiring Hal and Darlene bought and ran Rushmore Ammo until their retirement in 1996. After permanent retirement, Hal enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren and vacationing in Reno, Las Vegas, and Deadwood. Hal was also an avid fisherman and hunter during his lifetime.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; daughter, Sheryl, and sister, Mariel.
He is survived by his sons, Steve (Brenda) Dary, Piedmont, SD, and Kevin (Jennifer) Dary, Rapid City; a sister, Florence Goke, Madison, WI; six grandchildren, Michelle, Jessie, Danny, Danielle, Vincent, and Peyton, and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with full military honors rendered by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273.
