Rapid City - Harold "Sonny" L. Hudson, 70 entered the spirit world on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Rapid City. Harold Leon Hudson was born July 6, 1944 to the parents of Paul Adrian and Dorothy Marie [Dustrude] Hudson on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation at Rosebud, South Dakota and was as an enrolled member. He attended grade school at St. John's Catholic School at Rapid City and graduated from high school in 1960 from St. Paul's Indian School in Marty, SD. Sonny joined and served in the United States Marine Corps from November of 1961 to February 1964. After his military service he moved to Vallejo, CA and began his career as a cabinetmaker. In 1968 he moved to Rapid City when his two children were born. He then returned to California and lived there many years before returning to Rapid City in 1991. Sonny was a life-long motorcyclist. He enjoyed rides on his Harley both long and short, particularly in the Black Hills. He spent many of his later years as a mentor and volunteer counselor for friends and strangers needing a good listener to help them achieve a more productive and meaningful life. He was an officer for many years at A.R.M. [Association of Recovering Motorcyclists]. His calm personality, caring disposition, and quick laugh will be missed by many. Survivors include his mother Dorothy Hudson of Rapid City; son Anthony Hudson of Chadron, NE; daughter Dani Hudson-Tyree of Chadron, NE; two brothers: Paul Hudson of Rapid City and Steve [Ilana] Hudson of Rapid City; four sisters: Gloria Rittenberry of Ashland City, TN, Paulette [Don] Montileaux of Rapid City, Diana Hudson of Piedmont, and Geraldine "Geri" [Bill] Eby of Broadrun, VA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and special friend Mary Basoco of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his father Paul Hudson and sister Janet Hudson-Shultz. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, July 30 at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 221 Knollwood Drive, with Rev. David Matzko, S.J. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be sent for the family of Sonny in care of Paulette Montileaux.
