Harold Maurice Stone

March 15, 1931 – October 29, 2025

Harold Maurice Stone, 94, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at Monument Health in Rapid City.

Harold was born on March 15, 1931, in Colton, South Dakota, to Hans and Alida Stone, joining his siblings Sam, Floyd, Don, Doris, and Elaine. He graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1950, where he played several sports and was a proud Cobbler. It was there he met his high school sweetheart, LaVerne McManus. After graduation, Harold served two years during the Korean War.

On July 31, 1953, Harold and LaVerne were married. They lived in Boulder, Colorado, where their first son, John, was born and passed away shortly after birth. They later returned to Rapid City, where they raised their family and spent the rest of their lives together. LaVerne passed away in 2022.

Harold is survived by his children: Greg (Bridget) Stone, Beth (Bob) Chalberg, and Matt (Kathy) Stone.

He was the proud grandfather of: Zach(Jenna) Stone, Cody (Sierra) Stone, Rory (Nicole) Stone, Ryan (Stephany) Chalberg, Erin (Lee) Bauer, Megan (Richard) Lim, and Daniel Stone.

He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Isabella Stone, Berkley and Bryn Bauer, and Eleanor and Jude Chalberg.

Harold is also survived by his sister, Elaine Turner; and sister-in-law, Clarice McManus.

Harold worked alongside his son Greg at the family business, Stone's Furniture and Dakota Bison, designing and building custom pieces. He truly enjoyed going to "the shop" every day — even on Sundays. He loved all sports, especially golf, and cherished the friendships he shared with his Wednesday golf group at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

Harold will be remembered for his steady kindness, quiet humor, and the warm and welcoming home he and LaVerne created on Stone Drive.

Harold will be laid to rest alongside LaVerne at Black Hills National Cemetery during a private family service.
