IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harry James
Alloway
March 1, 1945 – February 16, 2023
Harry James Alloway, Rapid City, SD passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with Mesothelioma. He was born on March 1, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After high school Harry joined the US Air Force. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. While stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota he was an aircraft mechanic. Cruising 8 th Street he met the love of his life, Colleen Janet Reishus. They were married on October 30, 1965. Harry learned upholstery skills working for Pat & Jean Colvin. Those skills enabled him to open his own business Harry's Upholstery. Operating in multiple locations around town, Harry's Upholstery became a mainstay in the gap for coffee, gossip, stories and jokes for 55 years.
After 19 years of marriage Harry and Colleen welcomed their son Franklin Ralph on December 10, 1983. Frank gave Harry so much love and joy. Together they enjoyed boating and Nascar. Harry loved watching Frank racing karts and RC Cars. Each day began with a phone call to Frank.
His love of boats and water led Harry and family to spend weekends at Angostura Lake. It soon became their summer home. A lot of great friendships were made, enough to last a lifetime.
Semi-retirement meant snow-birding. The motorhome was outgrown and a permanent property was purchased in Apache Junction, AZ. Many wonderful years of laughs and making memories with old and new friends were enjoyed.
Harry's pranks were legendary and his laugh contagious. He was an avid Elvis fan. He loved Saturday morning coffee and donuts with the guys, auctions and rummage sales.
Harry is survived by his loving wife Colleen, son Frank (Carissa), sister Clara Gamble, brother-in-law Larry Reishus (JoAnn), nephews; Bill Reishus (Kathy), John Reishus, niece Jane Reishus, great nephew; Johnathon and great niece Kristina Reishus (Brian)
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Alloway, 3 half-brothers, 1 half-sister and his beloved dogs Fred, Suzette, Fudge and Dobie.
