Rapid City- Harry Hugh Blanks Sr. As The sun rose on Oct. 19, 2010; Harry left his home and entered eternal life after losing a short battle with cancer He was born to W.H. Blanks and Eula Mae (Glass) in Anniston, AL, on Feb. 24, 1941. On Jan. 12, 1963, Harry married the love of his life, Sharon (Huber) in Pueblo, CO. Harry spent 21 years in the Air Force. While in the service, he was stationed at three different bases: FE Warren AFB, WY; Minot AFB, ND; and Ellsworth AFB, SD. He was then a pressman at the Rapid City Journal for 15 years before early retirement due to a disability caused by cancer in 1994. Harry was a former Fire Fighter with the Whispering Pines Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid photographer and a member of the Black Hills Photographic Society. Harry was also an avid Hot Air Balloonist Piloting the Wind Bag. Harry is survived by his wife Sharon (Huber) Blanks; two sons, Harry, Jr. Blanks of Pordenone, Italy, and Jerald Blanks of Rapid City, SD; two daughters, Katherine Trina Blanks of Bessemer City, NC and Michelle Pollard of Owego, NY; three brothers, Ervin of Atlanta, GA, Pat of Huntsville, AL, and Gene of Ohatche, AL; two sisters, Sue Thornton of Huntsville, AL, and Peggy Holcomb of Anniston, AL; 9 grandchildren, Megan, Robert, Cory, Garrett, Jessica, Nicole, Andreya, Isaac, Miles; and one great-grand daughter, Sateen. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 5-7 P.M. with a Christian Wake Service to follow at 7 P.M. at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. 2700 Jackson Blvd. Rapid City, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Fr. Ed Vanorny presiding. Burial with military honors by the Ellsworth AFB Honor Guard will take place at 1 P.M. at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota. Memorials have been established to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Black Hills Photographic Society, and Hospice of the Hills.
