Harry M. Hieb passed away on Dec. 4, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospice Auxiliary House in Rapid City, SD.
Harry was born Aug. 19, 1932 to Rudolph and Mary (Walth) Hieb at Hosmer, SD. Harry was the youngest of 13 children.
He was an U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, awarded the bronze star, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 2, 1954.
He married Carolyn Opp of Eureka, SD on Jan. 30, 1955 and they have 5 children.
Harry worked in the Masonry industry in the Black Hills area for over 40 years. He was a foreman for Barton Masonry and ECB Masonry and was awarded numerous Master Craftsmanship awards for his work throughout the Rapid City and Black Hills area.
Harry was dedicated to the Rapid City community, and served as Secretary of the Rapid Valley School Board, and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Following "retirement," Harry worked for 20 more years as a wheat farmer and cattle rancher south of New Underwood, SD.
Harry was married to the love of his life and soul mate, Carolyn, for 60 years. Survivors include his wife Carolyn of Rapid City, daughter Holly (Hieb) Lemay of Rapid City, three sons, Monte Hieb of Summersville, WV (wife Nancy), Mario Hieb of Salt Lake City, UT, Jay Hieb of Rapid City (wife Jodi), and daughter Dr. Heidi (Hieb) Strouth of Rapid City (husband B.J.), sister Helen (Hieb) Satmary of California (husband Jay), 9 grandchildren, Benjamin Lemay, Gretchen Alexander (husband Brian), Harrison Hieb (wife Daphne), Christina Hieb, Andrew Hieb, Amanda Hieb, Jake Strouth, Olivia Strouth, Henry Strouth and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, Rapid City.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Kansas City Street, in Rapid City, with Pastor Wilbur L. Holz officiating.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with full Military Honors rendered by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and South Dakota Army National Guard Honor Team.
