Harry O. Petrick, 87, of Rapid City, died Monday, June 6, 2016, at a local nursing home.
He was born on February 19, 1929, near Bowman, North Dakota on the family homestead, to Frank J. and Bertha (Vrana) Petrick. Harry grew up and graduated from Bowman High School and served in the US Army in Fort Dix, New Jersey during the Korean Conflict. While in New Jersey, he met Frances Patruno. They were married in Orange New Jersey on April 30, 1955 and moved to Rapid City soon after their marriage.
Harry worked for Black Hills Oldsmobile and Cadillac and then for Motive Parts for 30 years. He also fixed and sold washers and dryers. After his retirement he fixed up bicycles for the Salvation Army. Harry figured that he had refurbished 853 bicycles. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a member of Cathedral Parish.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Petrick, of Rapid City and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Della Hymel and 2 brothers, Frank and Gilbert.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13th at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Father Ed Vanorny presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Burial, with military honors rendered by VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard, will be at 2:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery.
