Harvey L. Dougan RAPID CITY - Harvey L. Dougan, 76, Rapid City, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House. Harvey was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Emmet, Ark. His childhood was spent in Arkansas, from there, the family moved to Richmond, CA. Harvey graduated from El Cerrito High School, where he was a star athlete, lettering in baseball, basketball and football. He joined the Naval Reserve, then the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, WY. He spent his stint there playing baseball and his team won two world championships. While at Warren AFB, he met and married Ardyth Gorr. After his enlistment was up, he had a contract with the Pittsburg Pirates farm league. Due to his wife's health they decided to move to the farm and ranch of her parents, Rex and Genevieve Gorr, at Scenic. There they farmed for many years and adopted their son, Jeff. After Ardyth passed away, Harvey married Gladys Somerville and they moved to Rapid City. Harvey enjoyed bowling, playing senior baseball and watching sports and visiting with people. Harvey is survived by his wife, Gladys, Rapid City; two sons, Daniel Dougan, Minot, ND, and Jeff Dougan, Rapid City; one daughter, Nancy Laber, Black Hawk; two sisters, Myrtle Barone, Santa Rosa, CA, and Patricia Gill, Clear Lake, CA; one brother, Jimmy Dougan, Fairfield, CA; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Butler and Margaret Dougan; two sisters, Maxine Dougan and Margerie Ford; one brother Samuel Dougan; and his wife, Ardyth. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at South Park United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Bruce Herrboldt officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills.
