RAPID CITY- Hazel Eileen Rogers died peacefully after a short illness on June 28, 2018. Hazel was born on August 11, 1933, to Andrew and Ruby (Strand) Quien in Canton, SD, the eldest of 6.
She met Donald Marion Rogers while working in Big Piney, WY. They were married on July 2, 1955, in Hazel's home church: Springdale Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, SD. Together Hazel and Don had 4 children. They called Rapid City home since 1966 where Hazel was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church; volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, earning many awards; and friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and husband.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Children: David & Jerri Rogers (Denver, CO); Rebecca & Kevin Lindsay (Vine Grove, KY); Esther Brown & Dar Voegele, and Phillip Rogers (Rapid City, SD). Grandchildren: Mike Rogers; Katie Rogers; Sarah & Paul Ragusa; Casey Lindsay; and Rachael Brown. Great-grandchildren: Felicity Akers; Dylan and Kamryn Kloss; Lane, Wade & Sadie Ragusa.
Hazel's home was a place of respite for many weary, wandering individuals. Her coffee pot was always on, hot and black!
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial at Black Hills National Cemetery.
