Obituary

RAPID CITY- Helen F. Millslagle, 97, died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at surrounded by family at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona.

Helen was born on March 18, 1919 in Gregory, SD to Albert and Anna (Raschke) Boortz. She grew up on a farm six miles south of Gregory with four brothers and three sisters. After graduating from high school, Helen moved to Lead, SD. There she worked as a clerk and bookkeeper at Emma's dress shop. While in Lead, she met and married her husband, Clyde Millslagle on September 21, 1946. They were married for 55 years. In 1947, Helen and Clyde moved to Rapid City where they raised their four children.  She referred to her children by the nicknames she gave them; Gary was Squirt, Marla was Sis, Duane was Spike and Clyde was Yogi.

Helen was very dedicated to her family, and the Lord. After the children were raised, Helen worked in food service for Garfield Elementary School until its closing. Helen was very supportive of her children, following them on many of their activities. Helen loved the game of baseball; being an avid fan of the Diamondbacks and Post 22. She was a very strong Lutheran from the time of her birth. She was a devoted member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. While in Tempe, AZ, Helen attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

During her time on earth, she helped with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League, Pony League, Colt League, Legion Baseball, and volunteered with babysitting. She was known for always being there for her family and friends in their time of need.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clyde, and her four brothers and three sisters.

Helen is survived by her four children: Gary "Squirt" Millslagle, Mesa, AZ; Dr. Duane "Spike" (Jackie) Millslagle, Minneapolis, MN; Clyde "Yogi" Millslagle, Rapid City; and Marla "Sis" (Gene) Johnson, Black Hawk; seven grandchildren: Chad Millslagle, Kevin Millslagle, Kristi Barnnett, Kelli Millslagle, Meagan Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Tyler Millslagle; five great grandchildren: Wilson Barnnett, Carter Barnnett, Evan Barnnett, Taylor Millslagle, and Kennedy Millslagle.

A memorial has been established to Our Redeemer Church School.

A visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Friday, November 18 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Josh Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
