Obituary

RAPID CITY--Herbert Glen Christensen was born in Badger, SD, on August 3, 1921. He passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, after a sudden illness. Herb grew up in Badger and enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. He served as an aviation specialist during WWII until December, 1945. Herb married Dorothy Holcomb. Dorothy and Herb had three children and made their home in Atlanta, GA. Dorothy and baby son, Douglas died in an automobile accident. Herb married Ona Bunde on May, 1954, in Badger. They moved from Badger to Rapid City in 1955 where Herb owned and operated a radio and TV repair shop. In 1963 Herb went to work for the US Postal Service and retired in 1983. Herb was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; two sons, Douglas and Larry; two sisters, Helen and Agnes; a brother, Arthur, and his parents. His quiet, gentle countenance will be missed by his wife, Ona of Rapid City; two daughters, Betty and her husband, Emil of Colorado Springs, and Sonya Christensen of Rapid City; three sons, Keith and his wife, Mary of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Mark and his wife Tracy of Prescott, Arizona, and Steve of Rapid City; grandchildren, Yvonne and Doug, two great grandsons and a great-great granddaughter, two sisters, Edna Jaeger of Los Alamos, New Mexico and Mabel Carlson of Miller, SD. Visitation was from 9 until 10 a.m. on Monday, March 10th, at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd, A service was held at Black Hills National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 10, with Chaplain H. B. Cleveland officiating. Military honors were provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 of Rapid City. Friends may sign his online guest register and leave condolence wishes through www.osheimschmidt.com.
