Obituary

RAPID CITY--Herbert A. Decker, 92, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Herbert A Decker was born on May 14, 1917 in Emery, South Dakota to Samuel J. and Amalia (Triebwasser) Decker. He passed away on May 4, 2010 at his home. He received 8 years of elementary education at the Plum Creek School of rural Emery, South Dakota. Herb accepted the Lord as his Saviour at age 12. He was baptized in the James River and was received into the membership at Plum Creek Baptist Church. He was united in marriage to Wanda Haupt of Freeman, South Dakota on October 13, 1940. They shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. Herb and Wanda farmed on the home place and enjoyed their life farming. He was the spiritual leader of their home. He was a kind, gentle, loving, dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved to play games with his children, grandchildren and friends. Herb was known for his friendlinesshe would visit with anyone. He was loved by many who enjoyed his gentle and kind spirit. He will be greatly missed. In recent years, Herb courageously accepted his battle with dementia. It was difficult for his family to see the results of Alzheimers taking its toll on his mind and body. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Wanda of Rapid City; 3 daughters, Janice (Jim) Sievers of Sioux Falls, Mary Ellen (Don) Sievers of Rapid City, and Maleda (Ron) Moross of Sturgis; 8 grandchildren, Joy (Joel) Wegner, Jill Lorang, Jeffry (Sue) Sievers, Sherril (Jim) Morgan, Dan Sievers, Justin (Shelly) Inhofer, Amy (Chris) Kucker, and Jared (Cassi) Inhofer; 3 step grandchildren, Veronica (Dan) Visker, Maranda Moross and special friend Scott Remington and Daniel Moross; 15 great-grandchildren; and 3 step great-grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 8, at South Canyon Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial has been established for South Canyon Baptist Church
