RAPID CITY - Hilma T. "Helen" Swane, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. Helen was born June 27, 1915, in Canby, Minn., to Casper and Ida Field. She spent her early years on a farm near Camby, and then moved to Gary, S.D., where she went to school and graduated in 1935. After graduation, she moved to Sioux Falls where she met Elmer Swane. They were married on Nov. 18, 1939. They moved to Rapid City in 1945. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She also belonged to Rapid City Does Drove 33 and Minneluzahan. Survivors include two sons, David Swane (Barbara), Black Hawk, and Paul Swane (Rebecca), Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Cheryl Monteith, Rapid City; seven grandchildren, Jeanette, Stephanie, Stacy, Jerry and Kristin Swane, and Dean and John Szymanski; three great-grandchildren, Kaycee, Winter and Thristine; and numerous nieces an nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Swane; her parents; three brothers, Clifford, Ben and Merle; two sisters, Myrtle and Amanda; and one granddaughter, Dawn Kitchen. The family wishes to thank the staff of Golden Living Meadowbrook and Dr. Wessel for their loving care of our mother. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Kansas City St., with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials have been established to Trinity Lutheran Church or Divine Shepard Lutheran Church in Black Hawk.
