Obituary

Rapid City - Howard Clyde Bowling, 85, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Department of Veteran Affairs VA Center at Ft. Meade, SD. He was born June 8, 1929, in Farmer, SD, son to Bertha and Thomas Bowling. Howard was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked as an accountant until he retired. Howard was also a lifetime member of the Rapid City VFW Post 1273. Howard is survived by his wife, Lorene; sister, Marilyn Zeal; brother, Darrell Bowling; children, Scott Meadows, Debra Theroux, Robin (Keith) Bella, and William Paulson; step-children, Rick (Becky) Puetz, Bob (Mylee) Puetz, Allen Puetz, and Brett (Jennifer) Puetz; grandchildren, Michelle Kammer, Todd Meadows, Ashley Filibeck, Dylan Mashek, Kaine and Kierra Bella, Asia Mosher, Alyssa Rodriquez, Knox, Syxx, Tyler, Brianna, Andie and Cole Puetz, and Justin, Tyler and Sammi Nachtweih; six great-grandchildren as well as many extended relatives and beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lola; second wife, Jackie; parents; sister, Marlys Ozanne; brothers, Lowell and Harlan Bowling; and step-son, David Puetz. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, December 22 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard with a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 pm. Christian Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Tuesday, December 23 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4500 Jackson Boulevard. Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with full Military Honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post #1273 and South Dakota Army National Guard. A reception will follow at Rapid City Rushmore VFW Post #1273 at 420 Main Street. Memorials may be directed to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Rushmore VFW Post #1273.
