RAPID CITY -- Irene Kate Mollerud, 90, Rapid City, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, in Rapid City. Irene was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Hill City to Herman and Blanche Matt. She grew up in the Deerfield/Hill City area and graduated from Custer High School in 1938. Irene married Albert Mollerud on June 24, 1942, in Deadwood, and had seven children. Irene and Albert were business operators in the Deadwood and Sturgis area. Irene was a kind-hearted woman; she was always willing to help others. After her retirement, Irene worked countless hours as a dedicated volunteer for the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks and libraries in both Rapid City and Spearfish. Irene enjoyed cooking and loved food, music and dancing. Survivors include three sons, Robert Bob Mollerud, Aurora, Colo., David Mollerud, Prior Lake, Minn., and Fred Mollerud, Belen, N.M.; three daughters, Patty Kussman, Rapid City, Judy Dolley, Rio Rancho, N.M., and Christine Mollerud, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; 12 grandsons; one granddaughter; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velda Schriner, Rapid City, and Lucille Butler, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Mollerud; daughter, Helen Kling; brother, Tony Matt; and sister, Ethel Christon. Our Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend will be missed; we invite you to share in a memorial service with us to celebrate her life at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
