Obituary

A celebration of life will be held at Fairway Hills Party Room (3999 Fairway Hills Drive, Rapid City) Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 12:30pm - 3:00pm.

On August 6, 2022, Irene Ardella Teker Moore left the Black Hills of South Dakota she loved so much for her heavenly home. Although Irene had some health issues her passing was unexpected and she will be missed by many.

Irene was born on January 30, 1941, in Butte, Montana, to Martin Teker, Jr and Ardella (Diehl) Teker. She was the first born and later was joined by her sister, Donna. They lived in various places during her early years but eventually Irene, Donna, and their mother called Minot, North Dakota home, where Irene graduated from high school in 1959.

Irene wanted to see the world. She worked for Eastern Airlines while in Chicago and when living in Australia during the late 60s-early 70s she worked for Pan American. During this time she 'traveled the world' including scuba diving in New Zealand, Cozumel, and the Florida Keys. What an experience and wonderful memory. Irene had many great times as she explored the places of the world. For her 60 th birthday she traveled back to Australia for a bus/hiking trip of the Australian Outback. She loved this trip and always marveled that she was able to accomplish it. She also enjoyed her trip to the Canadian Rockies and its beauty. The items in her condo reminded her of the places she had traveled.

Eventually a government job appealed to her - working for the Internal Revenue Service. Although this wasn't an easy job, by any means, she had an eye for detail and gave 29 years of service before retiring in June, 2017. With her retirement the IRS in Dallas lost an extremely detailed, hard worker.

Although Donna and her daughter, Niki, lived in Minnesota they kept in touch through cards, letters, texts and phone calls. They spent time together on various trips including one documented in a book Irene kept on her coffee table. Irene always mentioned what a fun trip they had.

One thing Irene always wanted was to meet and spend time with the Teker extended family. She traveled with her cousins, Aunt Marian, and Uncle Warren in 2007 to Washington State to meet parts of the extended family and help her Uncle Lester and Aunt Alice celebrate their 70 th wedding anniversary. What a time she had visiting with relatives and seeing the sights of Seattle.

Although Irene wasn't quite ready to retire, she decided that Rapid City, SD, and the Black Hills were where she wanted to call home, when she did retire. In 2014 she visited Rapid, and with the help of Marvel and Dennis, she searched for a home and purchased her Vista Park Condo. In 2017 she finally decided to retire and with the help of family and friends accomplished the move from Dallas, TX, to Rapid City, SD. So many times during her five years in Rapid she talked about how thankful she was to live in such a beautiful place. She was so happy to live by her Aunt Marian, cousins and children of her cousins and to be included in many of their activities, birthday, and holiday celebrations – she was part of the family, and she truly enjoyed it, as did the family enjoy her. She is missed.

Irene is survived by her sister, Donna Mattson, and niece Niki Mattson of Minnesota; her Rapid City cousins, Jim and Ann Schleve, Marshall Schleve, Marvel and Dennis Thuringer, Melinda Loy, and second cousins, Mark and Christine Frederick and their children Nolan, Sarah, Tessa, Chloe; Kimberlee Thuringer and Evan Keffler, and Barry, Tamara and Carter Loy. She also kept in touch with cousins, Carol Rieth, Penny (John) Weber, Ronnie (Virginia) Teker, Larry Teker, and Bruce (Margie) Jones. She will also be missed by the Friday morning coffee group and her friends in Dallas, TX, as well as many whose lives she touched while at Osteo-Strong, channel walking, getting takeout at Olive Garden, Colonial House, Culvers, or Shooters.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
