RAPID CITYJackson C. Jack Kinney, 77, passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Monday, March 30, 2009. Jack was born on May 16, 1931, in Faith, to John Bartels and Grace Marie (Boehrs) Kinney. He grew up in Sturgis and then served in the U. S. Army for nearly 5 years, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. After his service, Jack served as a highway patrolman in South Dakota. On July 27, 1974, he married Velda Schnell. Jack retired from the highway patrol in 1980, and then had his own investigative service. Jack was a lover of the outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Velda, Rapid City; 3 sons, David Kinney, Universal City, TX, Scott Kinney, Upton, WY and Kevin (Megan) Kinney, Rapid City; three grandchildren, Daniel Kinney of California, Stephanie (Brandon) Longmeyer, California and Emma Kinney, Rapid City; two great-grandchildren, Triston and Reina Longmeyer; his brothers and sisters, DeLayne (Shirley) Kinney, Billy (Moira) Kinney, Robert Kinney, Donald (Peggy) Kinney and Coral Smith, all of Sturgis, and Sharon (Paul) Kilzer, Madrid, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael in 1985, his parents and a brother, James. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, at Bible Fellowship Church, 1212 E. Fairmont Blvd, with Pastor Dick Nickel officiating.
