Obituary

RAPID CITY - James Arthur Anderson, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at his residence in Rapid City following a lengthy illness. He was born April 19, 1932, in Omaha, NE, to Clarence and Rosemary (Staph) Anderson. His family moved to Rapid City, when he was in the sixth grade. He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1950 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. On Nov. 4, 1954, he married Jane Ridinger in Onida, and they had one daughter, Pamela Susan. The family lived in Fargo, ND, Bemidji, MN and returned to Rapid City, in 1964. He was a manager for Commercial Credit Finance until his retirement in 1987. His wife, Jane, passed away on Dec. 23, 1988. He married Jacqueline Berg on June 8, 1990. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge #1187, the Jaycees, the Moose Club and the National Rifleman's Association. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, dancing and woodworking. Many people have items in their homes that will be cherished from the many wood projects he created in his shop. But most of all, he enjoyed taking care of his beautiful lawn. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Anderson, Rapid City; a daughter, Pamela (Gary) Mitchell, Rapid City; two stepsons, Kerry Berg, Sioux Falls, and Randy (Connie) Berg, Sturgis; a step-daughter, Toni (Milton) McPeek, Aurora, CO; nine step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Anderson, Bridgeton, MO, and Tom (Kathy) Anderson, Paulden, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane, his parents and a sister. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dwight Stensgaard officiating. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City. A memorial has been established for the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House.
